Meet Sarge, Our Chocolate Roan Australian Labradoodle
Sarge became part of our Walls Family Doodles family in spring 2023 when he was just eight weeks old. From day one, he picked Elizabeth as his person. If you visit our home in Anderson, you'll see him trailing behind her from room to room. He's her constant shadow.
We have a "no dogs on furniture" rule, but Sarge figured out a loophole. He can't climb up, but nobody said he couldn't put his front paws on the couch cushion. Now when Jason or Elizabeth sit down, Sarge rests his paws on their lap and lays his head down for pets. We let him get away with it every time.
At 25 pounds, Sarge is what we call a mini Australian Labradoodle. His chocolate brown coat has silver-gray speckles mixed in—that's called roan. When light hits his fur just right, those silver spots sparkle. His coat feels soft and wavy, like a teddy bear. Families with allergies love this coat type because it doesn't shed much.
Why Sarge Makes Us Laugh Every Day
Sarge has the funniest habits. Every winter, he eats snow. Not just a little taste—he chomps mouthfuls like it's his favorite snack. We have no idea why, but it cracks us up every time.
He also made friends with our rooster, Brooster. Yes, a rooster. They chase each other around the yard, and Sarge never hurts him. He just wants to play. Watching a fluffy chocolate dog and a black rooster run laps together is comedy gold.
When our youngest daughter drives her little pink truck around the backyard, Sarge runs alongside like he's protecting her. He matches her speed, tail wagging nonstop. She giggles the whole time.
With our other male dog, Ryder, Sarge wrestles all day long. They tumble, play-bite, and chase until they're both panting. But the second a new puppy joins the action, Sarge switches modes. He becomes gentle and patient, letting the puppy climb on him and tug his ears. He's a natural mentor.
What Makes Sarge Special for Families
We chose Sarge for our breeding program because of his rare chocolate roan coat and his amazing personality. But it's his temperament that truly sets him apart.
Sarge is calm. When visitors come to meet our dogs, Sarge doesn't jump or bark. He walks up, sits, and waits for them to pet him. Kids can hug him, and he just stands there wagging. That patience is exactly what families need.
He's loyal. Sarge wants to be near his people. If you're home, he's in the same room. Not demanding attention—just nearby, content to be included.
He's obedient. When we say "sit," he sits. "Stay," he stays. He watches our faces, waiting for the next cue. That eagerness to please gets passed to his puppies, making them easier to train.
Our Labradoodle Puppies for Sale: What Sarge Passes to His Pups
When families ask about Australian Labradoodle puppies for sale from Sarge, they want to know what traits their puppy will have. Here's what we've seen across multiple litters:
Coat Quality:
Every one of Sarge's puppies gets his soft, wavy fleece coat. We breed him with straight-coated females on purpose. This mix creates the perfect wave—not too curly, not too flat. These coats don't shed like regular dogs, which helps families with allergies.
Intelligence:
Sarge's puppies are smart. Really smart. Several families have told us their vets and trainers recommended their puppy for service dog training. They learn commands fast and remember them. One family taught their Sarge puppy to ring a bell when she needs to go outside—at just 10 weeks old.
Temperament Range:
Some of Sarge's puppies are calm like him. They're the ones who nap during playtime and prefer gentle pets over rough play. Other puppies are more playful and energetic—they zoom around the yard and want to play tug-of-war for hours. This variety helps us match each puppy to the right family during our YOU-pick process.
Color Patterns:
The chocolate roan pattern shows up differently in each puppy. Some have lots of silver-gray speckling all over. Others have just a few spots on their chest or paws. Every puppy is unique.
Health Testing: Why It Matters for Your Mini Labradoodle Puppies
Before Sarge ever had puppies, we drove him to VIP Animal Care in Noblesville for complete health testing. We wanted proof that he's healthy and won't pass genetic problems to his puppies.
Hip X-Rays:
Sarge's hips earned an "Excellent" rating from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). That means his hip joints fit together perfectly with no signs of dysplasia—a painful condition that can make dogs limp as they age.¹ Dogs with good hips are more likely to have puppies with good hips.
Elbow X-Rays:
His elbows also passed with flying colors. No dysplasia there either.
Eye Exam:
A veterinary eye specialist checked Sarge's eyes under special equipment. No inherited eye diseases. His certification is good through October 2025, then we'll retest.
Genetic Testing:
We sent Sarge's DNA to Paw Print Genetics lab. They tested for eight genetic diseases common in breeds like ours. Sarge came back "clear" for every single one:
Degenerative Myelopathy (causes back leg weakness)
Exercise-Induced Collapse (causes fainting during play)
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (causes blindness)
Von Willebrand Disease (causes bleeding problems)
And four more conditions
These test results mean Sarge doesn't carry the genes for these diseases. He can't pass them to puppies. That protects your future dog from pain and expensive vet bills.
You can see all of Sarge's certificates on our website or during your visit to our Anderson home.
Labradoodle Breeder in Anderson: Why Location Matters
We raise our Australian Labradoodle puppies for sale right here in Anderson, Indiana—not in a kennel, in our home. Sarge lives with us. He sleeps in the house, plays in our fenced backyard, and greets our kids when they come home from school.
When Sarge has puppies, they're born in a quiet bedroom. They hear normal house sounds from day one—dishwasher running, kids laughing, TV playing. This early exposure helps them grow up confident in regular family homes.
If you live in Anderson, Pendleton, Chesterfield, or anywhere in Madison County, you're close enough to visit before reserving a puppy. We encourage families to come meet Sarge, see where puppies grow up, and ask questions face-to-face.
Families from Indianapolis suburbs—Fishers, Noblesville, Carmel, Westfield—drive about 35 minutes to reach us. Many make multiple visits, which we love. Building relationships with families is important to us.
We also offer puppy delivery for families who can't easily travel to Anderson.
Mini Labradoodle Puppies: Size Guide
Parents ask if "mini" means tiny. Not quite. Sarge weighs 25 pounds—about the size of a Cocker Spaniel. When we breed him with our mini females (who weigh 22-28 pounds), puppies typically grow to 20-30 pounds as adults.
Is a mini right for your family?
Good fit: Apartment or townhome with small yard, older adults who want a manageable size, first-time dog owners, families with young kids
Consider medium instead: Large property with acres to run, very active lifestyle (long trail hikes, running partner), want a bigger presence for home security
Our medium Australian Labradoodles weigh 35-50 pounds if you want to compare.
Chocolate Labradoodle Puppies: About Color Genetics
Sarge is chocolate brown because of his genetics. Both copies of his color gene are "b/b" (brown). He'll pass one "b" to every puppy.
When we pair him with a chocolate female, all puppies will be chocolate. When we pair him with a cream or red female who carries the brown gene, we get a mix—some chocolate, some cream or red.
The roan pattern is trickier. Roan means silver-gray hairs scattered through the base color. Not every puppy gets roan, even from roan parents. Genetics are funny that way. But when a puppy does inherit it, families tell us they get compliments everywhere they go.
Current and Future Breeding Plans
Sarge is an active part of our breeding program. His next litter will be with our upcoming female, Strawberry. She's a beautiful red Australian Labradoodle joining our family in 2025.
We limit Sarge to 2-3 litters per year maximum. Responsible breeding means not overusing any parent dog. Sarge needs time to rest, play, and just be a dog between litters.
If you're hoping for a puppy from Sarge specifically, the best step is applying to our waitlist. We match families with puppies based on your preferences and lifestyle, and we note if you prefer a certain parent dog.

Puppy Culture and Early Training
Before your puppy ever comes home, Sarge's puppies experience our Puppy Culture program. Here's what that means:
Weeks 0-2 (Newborn):
We do Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) exercises daily. This involves gentle handling that research shows helps puppies handle stress better as adults.
Weeks 3-4 (Toddler):
Puppies explore different surfaces—carpet, tile, grass, gravel. They hear household sounds. We start potty training on disposable pads.
Weeks 5-6 (Preschool):
We introduce crate training, grooming tools (brushes, nail clippers), and car rides. They meet new people and other dogs. We work on bite inhibition during play.
Weeks 7-8 (Kindergarten):
Final temperament testing. Individual attention. They're practicing "sit" and coming when called. They're ready for their new homes.
This early work gives your puppy a head start. Families tell us Sarge's puppies housebreak faster and adjust quicker than puppies from other breeders.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sarge and His Puppies
What generation Australian Labradoodle is Sarge?
Sarge is a multi-generational Australian Labradoodle. Both his parents and all four grandparents are Australian Labradoodles. Multi-gen breeding produces the most consistent puppies—predictable size, coat type, and temperament. You won't find surprises like shedding coats or unpredictable sizes. His complete family tree is listed on his WALA registration certificate.
What size will puppies from Sarge grow to?
Sarge weighs 25 pounds, which puts him in the mini category. His puppies usually grow to 20-30 pounds as adults, depending on the mother's size. At one year old, they're about 90% of their final size. By 18 months, they're fully grown. We can show you past Sarge puppies at different ages during your visit to give you a better idea.
How much do Australian Labradoodle puppies from Sarge cost?
Our Australian Labradoodle puppies are $3,000 regardless of color, pattern, or gender. This includes Puppy Culture training, health guarantee, WALA registration papers, first vaccines, microchip, and lifetime support from us. We don't charge extra for rare colors like chocolate roan. Visit our pricing page for payment options and what's included.
Are Sarge's puppies truly hypoallergenic?
No dog is 100% hypoallergenic, but Sarge's puppies come very close. His fleece coat produces less dander (the thing that triggers allergies) than regular dog breeds. We've had dozens of families with allergies successfully raise Sarge's puppies with zero reactions. Some people with severe allergies still react, which is why we encourage you to visit and spend time with Sarge before committing. He has the same coat type his puppies will have.
Can I meet Sarge before reserving a puppy?
Yes! We love when families visit. Meeting Sarge helps you see his temperament, size, and coat in person. You'll also see where puppies are raised and can ask us questions face-to-face. Many families visit 2-3 times before their puppy is born. Contact us at 317-608-9260 to set up a visit at our Anderson home. We're available most days by appointment.
How do I get on the waitlist for a Sarge puppy?
First, fill out our puppy application. After we review it, we'll call you to discuss your family and answer questions. Once approved, you join our waitlist. When we breed Sarge, we contact waitlist families in order. You can specify if you prefer Sarge over other parent dogs, and we'll note that. The waitlist doesn't obligate you to purchase—you can always decline if timing doesn't work out.
What health problems has Sarge been tested for?
Sarge passed all OFA health clearances for hips, elbows, and eyes. He also completed genetic testing through Paw Print Genetics for eight inherited diseases. He's clear for everything tested, meaning he doesn't carry genes for degenerative myelopathy, exercise-induced collapse, progressive retinal atrophy, Von Willebrand disease, or hereditary nasal parakeratosis. We have certificates for all tests available to view during visits or on request.
Is Sarge available for stud services to other breeders?
No, Sarge is not available for outside stud services. We keep him exclusive to our Walls Family Doodles program to maintain our breeding standards and ensure all puppies receive proper Puppy Culture training and health guarantees. This also limits his breeding to responsible levels.
